We found something! Ok we've found a lot of somethings. We have discovered that Unit U was once a trash burning area (like maybe 20 years ago.) Unit S seems to have been a local party hang out, & Units Q & R are rock piles.
That doesn't sound that great but we have to look through it to make sure it really is just surface junk. We have found a ton of pieces of shells (we are next to the beach after all); a ton of metal mostly from cans & possibly a dissolved battery (ick); various bone bits, mostly fish, sheep, camel, & maybe some small critter like a cat; some modern & modern-ish pottery & lots & lots of broken glass. We found two complete brown bottles that were identical & a weird fake crystal one that clearly said "Made in the USA" so that is obviously recent.
Now that we are getting down past all the top dirt and junk it's starting to get interesting. As I said yesterday we screen everything to see that we aren't missing anything. Nothing exciting there yet but it will come.
Today Unit's Q & R starting revealing some interesting things... There are walls (wahoo!) and a mysterious plastered area (very exciting) and some weird little caches of fish bones--maybe they got washed to shore and died but maybe not. We shall see, the more we find the more we will know.
The beginning of a wall.
Some sort of plastered area, we are still exploring and trying to figure out exactly what it is. Can you see it in there... sort of?

And lastly, fish bones... they are hard to see in the photo but there is soil discoloration and if you actually dig through it lots & lots of fishy bits. ;-)
